LOVEfirst: God's Heart for the Forgotten

11.07.16 | LOVEfirst

God is love and He calls us to love others. He especially wants us to love those who are often forgotten. God’s heart is for people who are underprivileged and overlooked. This heart for the least of these is evident throughout scripture. Jesus, God’s son, sought out and cared for the people who were hurting and God wants us to love these people too.

LOVEfirst Sunday is a celebration of the work God is doing through Pinelake to give grace and hope to the orphaned and alone. But it’s also a call-to-action for every believer to do something to love and care for orphans.

The following are life change stories that reflect God’s desire for us to love others because He first loved us (1 John 4:19).

Dr. Saul Camacho and Matamoros Children’s Home

More than 25 years ago Pinelake Church was introduced to Casa Hogar (House of Hope) and Dr. Saul Camacho. As a child, Saul was changed by the ministry of Casa Hogar and went on to become an accomplished physician. But he knew God had more for him and today he serves as the director of this children’s home in Matamoros, Mexico.

TJ and Brandy Paul’s Adoption Story

It’s been said that adoption is when a baby doesn’t grow in a mother’s belly, but grows in a mother’s heart. At first the topic of children caused tension in TJ and Brandy’s marriage, but over time God gave Brandy room in her heart for an adopted child and in the process they both learned something about God’s heart for all of his children.

Justice Dawn Beam and Rescue 100

Dawn Beam, pastor Chip’s older sister, serves on the Mississippi Supreme Court. Her experiences in the court and her obedience to God have opened her eyes up to the opportunity that churches have to make a real difference in the lives of foster children.

A New Playground for the Children of Oak Circle Center

Oak Circle Center serves children and adolescents who face unique emotional, social, psychological and academic challenges. When Pinelake heard that the children there were without a playground a group from our church family gave up their weekend to deliver a very special gift.

We all can do something. You could adopt a child. You might choose to open your home to foster care. God may call you to serve orphans on a mission trip. He may be moving you to help one of our local partners or to support a family who is adoption or fostering children. Again, everyone has a part in caring for the least of these.

Ask God what He would have you do:

  • Adopting or fostering
  • Supporting adopting and fostering families
  • Supporting our ministry partners
  • Going on a mission trip
