Day 3 saw our opportunity to go to a juvenile detention center and to perform for and feed a crowd of homeless in uptown Chicago. The detention center houses nearly 430 juveniles awaiting the verdict of their trials. Chi Alpha was the very first group of minors allowed to come in and perform for the residents. Before the first concert Rachel Rucker prayed a simple prayer, “Remember we are humans we function by time and boundaries. God does not. Miracles are possible. Even though their hearts are hard. God can change them.” After a morning that saw 73 decisions for Christ and many more young people who came for prayer, the chaplain came onto the buses and announced, “You did the possible; God did the impossible.” The officials said the success of the morning will lead to new open doors at the prisons for more young people to do similar things for the residents.

At Uptown Baptist Church our kids were able to interact with a wide variety of Chicago homeless. It was amazing to to see how eager our young people were to talk to the people who came to the church for a meal. We will return to this church later this week, so please be in prayer for our young people as they prepare to continue reaching out to those in Uptown Chicago.
