My Salvation is Secure
Scripture:
Ephesians 2:8 — “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourself, it is the gift of God.”
Observation:
This is an awesome verse that has become a treasure to believers. Paul was reminding the church about their life in Christ. This verse teaches that our salvation is a gift of God that comes through faith in Christ. And this whole thing is wrapped in the grace (and mercy) of God. Note that man and our efforts to reach out to God are never mentioned. It begins with God—His grace—and our response is faith.
Application:
I am such a works-oriented or performance-focused person. It even extends over into my relationship with God. This verse is such a great reminder to me that I can do (did) nothing to gain salvation through my works. There’s no need to even try. Those efforts are fruitless. God gives me the gift of acceptance through faith in Christ. And Scripture teaches that he is a good, kind, loving father that will never take back this gift. My faith in Christ is a seal to this deal that can never be broken or undone.
Prayer:
God, thank you for your perfect salvation plan. Thank you for the life and freedom I have in you and for the security of my salvation.
