I wanna talk about me

June 12th, 2008

Scripture:
“Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.” Philippians 2:3-4

Observation:
Paul is speaking to the Philippi church and encouraging them to guard against any selfishness, prejudice or jealousy that might lead to dissension. Showing genuine interest in others is a positive step forward in maintaining unity among believers.

Application:
How often do I think about myself when I am asked to do something for another person? If I am gut wrenching honest, I would have to admit that it is more often than not. I think about how it will affect my life or how will I look in that situation. However, this is opposite of what Christ calls me to do. As I have experienced this week of VBS, I have been touched by the countless people that are serving out of selfless hearts. All the people that are working in the classrooms and working behind the scenes to make this week a success are true examples of a heart like Christ. It has been such a blessing to watch our church function as one — to all come together for the greater good of reaching these children for Christ.

Prayer:
Dear Lord thank you for the opportunity to be a part of a great team of servant leaders and staff that want the church to function together in unity. Help me to always be a team player and to consider the ones around me before I think of myself.
