The Song of Heaven

August 31st, 2008

Scripture:
“Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne and the living creatures and the elders; and the number of them was myriads of myriads, and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice, ‘Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing.’” Revelation 5:11-12

Observation:
In John’s vision in Revelation he is blessed to see a picture of the worship that takes place in heaven. Not only does he get to see the uncountable number of worshippers, but John also hears their song as verse 12 tells us that the multitude of heaven is singing, “worthy is the Lamb that was slain.”

Application:
My feeble imagination only allows me to partially grasp the magnitude of this worship but I know that it is the greatest worship in existence. Even the most powerful and Spirit-filled worship times on earth fall far short of this worship in Revelation 5 because we worship in faith, yet those that are in heaven worship the Savior in all His glory as they are face to face with Him.

I know that my personal worship is so often dictated by my image of God. Those in heaven are able to strongly proclaim that God is the worthy One because they clearly see the King in all His worth. I know that our worship on earth will never rival the worship of heaven, but I do know that God desires us to join in with the song of heaven in declaring that He is the worthy One. And I also know that God graces us with an image of who He is. Even though I am not around the throne in heaven, seeing Him with my own eyes, God, through His Word and through the Holy Spirit, allows me to see Him and have an understanding of who He is.

Prayer:
God I declare to You today that You are the only One worthy to be worshipped. You are the Lamb that was slain and because of that I worship You today. God I desire to see You more clearly so that I can better worship You. I ask that You open my eyes to the truth of who You are and allow me to more deeply grasp the sacrifice that You have made for me. I want to worship like those that surround Your throne in heaven. I confess to You that so often I sing “worthy is the Lamb” yet find myself engaged in the worship of the temporary things of this earth. Father forgive me for that. I praise You that You even allow me into Your presence to worship You at all. It is only by the blood of the Lamb that I can be welcomed in as a son of God. Father I pray today that my life would truly be one that joins in with the song of heaven in constantly declaring Your worth with the choices that I make and the thoughts that I think.
