The Blind leading the Blind

September 23rd, 2008

Scripture
“A blind man cannot guide a blind man, can he? Will they not both fall into a pit?” Luke 6:39

Observation
This scripture is a great lesson on leadership. Only one who sees clearly can lead others. The concept of one blind man leading another blind man paints a picture of confusion, of disorientation, and of misdirection. Two men who must feel their way will also go at a slower pace to find a certain destination, and struggle a lot more than two men with a leader who can see. Therefore, sight becomes vitally important for leadership. For the leader, seeing clearly requires understanding, true perspective and intentional focus.

Application
I’m thinking this morning of how important it is to take time and consideration for understanding. I don’t think I’ve been very teachable lately. Over the past week or so some of my core beliefs have been challenged, leaving me lacking confidence and a bit unsure. Just a short time ago I believed that I saw clearly enough to lead, however for a week or so now I have felt a lot more like the blind man. God has called me to lead my family and a ministry. For that I need His help to once again restore understanding, perspective, and focus so that I can lead in a way that glorifies Him.

Prayer
Father, help me. I’m desperate for You to either change my heart and mind or give me once again the confidence of conviction in certain areas. I want to be a leader that sees clearly and points others to You. I need restoration only you can give.
