To Disrupt and Confront!
September 29th, 2008
Scripture
“I’ve come to start a fire on earth — how I wish it were blazing right now! I’ve come to change up everything, turn everything rightside up — how long for it to be finished! Do you think I came to smooth things over and make everything nice? Not so. I’ve come to disrupt and confront!” Luke 12:49-51 (the message)
Observation
Jesus was a man of passion, purpose and boldness. Jesus is speaking not only to His disciples but also to the crowd that has formed around them and He gets fired up. Most of the sentences in this section of scripture end with exclamation points. He declares His intentions, “I’ve come to disrupt and confront!” His aim on earth was to passionately take a stand with no wavering and He would call others to the same. He declares there is no middle ground here. It is God or Satan. Righteousness or sinfulness.
I love to see Jesus fired up!
Application
I should live my life so that others don’t see a middle ground. That it is clear by every action I take whose side I am on. I should live with a burning in my soul to not settle for the mundane or the average and to call people to a higher standard by the way I live my life. And to live in such a way that my life disrupts and confronts the things around me that aren’t God honoring.
Prayer
God, help me to live my life passionately for You. Not being afraid of any confrontations that may come as a result of right living in a backward world. Give me strength to boldly live my life on Your side and help my life point people toward You daily.
