Remember the Lord

October 27th, 2008

Scripture:
“Tremble, O earth at the presence of the Lord, Who turns the rock into a pool of water, the flint into a spring of water.” Psalm 144:7-8

Observation:
The writer of this Psalm pauses to remember the activity of God in relation to the people of Israel. He reflects on the exodus from Egypt, the parting of the Red Sea, the crossing at the Jordan into the promise land and God’s presence on Mt. Sinai. He lets the reader as well as all creation know that they are to tremble in holy reverence in the presence of God.

Application:
Sometimes we believers need to stop along the road and look back at the path we have traveled. We sometimes forget that God saved the day and not us. We can also become flippant in our relationship to God and treat Him like a servant instead of Isaiah’s “holy, holy, holy” God. Remembering gives us a perspective about the times where the road became difficult and we felt God’s presence and it was obvious that God made a way. Look back and remember the victories, joy, and the presence of our great and mighty God as our traveling companion in life’s journey.

Prayer:
Great and Mighty God, forgive us when we take credit for life’s victories and place ourselves on the throne. Help us remember that from creation to this very moment that you are the God who lacks nothing and is ready to help when we face difficult times in life. Amen
