The Power of the Word

October 29th, 2008
Scripture:
He appointed twelve — designating them apostles — that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach.” Mark 3:14

Observation:
Mark 3 and 4 are significant passages regarding those who share the word of God and the message that they proclaim. In Mark 3:14-19 the text reveals that Jesus appoints 12 disciples to go out to preach and have authority over demonic influences. Mark 4 focuses on the message that is to be shared by the disciples. Jesus uses parables that relate sharing God’s word. Seed, light and a mustard seed are the metaphor used for God’s word. The seed, light and mustard seed have transforming power to change the soil or darkness that is able to receive them.

Application:
Sharing our story about the life changing power of Jesus is seed and light to people who will receive it. This passage lets me know that there is power in the testimony of a believer and even more so in scripture. “For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any double-edged sword, piercing even to the point of dividing soul from spirit, and joints from marrow; it is able to judge the desires and thoughts of the heart.” Heb. 4:12

Prayer:
Father, spur me on with your spirit to sow seeds of truth along my path today and strengthen my understanding that your word does not return void. Amen
