Happy Birthday! (Care Center Update)
It's not normal to serve birthday cakes at The Care Center. Normally we stick to the essentials. You know, canned fruits and vegetables, bread, boxed cereals, and some sort of meat when we can get it. But this past Tuesday, it just so happened that we had not one but two birthday cakes that someone "randomly" donated (I use quotations marks because I'm learning there's not too much that's random when God's involved).
The only decision left was who to give the cakes to. Unfortunately, we didn't have enough cakes for everyone so we'd have to make a couple of tough decisions.
One of the first families to come that night was a family of 5. There were three small kids, and if you saw their smile you'd have said yes too. As we delivered the cake to the car, all 3 kids started jumping up and down screaming. I mean, who doesn't like cake? But this went beyond normal levels of excitment! Turns out, it was one of the kid's birthday and the family had not been able to purchase a cake!
Can you believe that! God knew that little boy and his family were coming that night, and He wanted to make sure there was cake to celebrate. What a Father!!!
Later that night we had the honor of serving another family who lost everything during Katrina. It's been a rough couple of years since then, and our hearts broke as we listened to all this family had been through. It seemed so small and insignificant to offer a cake, but we prayed God would use that cake to provide at least a few moments of joy. Turns out, it "just so happened" that Tuesday was the wife's birthday as well!
I don't know if the correct response is to be suprised, amazed, or just downright in awe of God and how He takes care of His children. I just know it's been such a blessing to be a part of the work He's doing. Each week at The Care Center, we get to participate in so many amazing stories of God's grace and love. This week is your opportunity to participate too.
On Sunday, September 25, pack a bag of canned & dry foods and bring it to church with you. Leave it behind your car when you go to worship, and we’ll collect them and take them to the Care Center to help provide food for families in need. Click here for more info.
