20 Seconds of Insane Courage

20 Seconds of Insane Courage

Several weeks ago, I saw the movie, "We Bought A Zoo." It was a movie about a lot of things: A man grieving the loss of his wife, teenage love, the stress of being a parent, letting go, being courageous, raising an adolescent boy, and trying to find your way forward when you have no clue. However, the thing I remember the most was this line:

"All you need is 20 seconds of insane courage,
and I promise you something great will come of it."

As I've reflected on my own life, I'm ashamed to admit the number of times I've let fear paralyze me.  What if I fail? What if God's not in it? What will people think? What if she/he won't forgive me? What if raising the issue makes the matter worse? What if I don't have all the information I want before making a decision?...Our "what ifs" accumulate to the point that we determine the risks are simply too great and any shred of courage is buried in an avalanche of fear.  We can't pull the trigger!  We can't take the leap! As a result, we miss out on some great God-moments in our lives.

When God called you to Outlive Your Life, he called you to forsake the comfortable, the convenient, the predictable, the safe...and join Him (trust Him) on a great journey (John 10:10).  It's a journey that requires you to do what doesn't seem normal and often seems scary...begin tithing, go a mission trip, be accountable to a small group, share your faith with an unbeliever, volunteer in ministry, invest in your marriage, cut cable TV, read the Bible daily, confess a sin to a friend, forgive someone who has hurt you...  God wants to do a great work in you during this season, but it will require that you push through your fears. You can do it! All you need is 20 seconds of insane courage, and I promise you something great will come of it.
