Principles for Public Worship – Chip Henderson

Key Passage: 1 Corinthians 14:1-40

OPENING QUESTION

When you think about worship or church gatherings, what has helped you feel closest to God or most encouraged in your faith?

GROW

Paul taught that worship should build others up, bring clarity to God’s truth, and reflect the peace and order of God’s character. Spiritual gifts help strengthen the church when they are used with love and humility. When truth is clear and worship is orderly, people understand, respond, and are changed.

  • Who has built you up in your faith, and how did they encourage you?

  • Where do you sense God nudging you to use your gifts or your voice to build someone else up?

  • Why is clarity important when we share God’s Word or talk about spiritual things?

PRAY

Prayer is a place where we invite God to strengthen us, guide us, and shape us into people who reflect His peace and clarity.

  • Where do you need God’s strength or encouragement right now?

  • Is there an area of your life that feels confusing or chaotic where you want God to bring order?

  • How can our group pray for you to grow in using your gifts in a way that builds others up?

CONNECT

God uses people to help us grow. We are formed through encouragement, truth spoken in love, and relationships that point us toward Jesus.

  • Who has helped you understand God’s Word more clearly, and how did that impact you?

  • Who in your life needs encouragement, clarity, or hope this week?

  • What helps you shift the focus from personal preference to loving and serving others?

SHARE

We are called to build up the body of Christ and bless others. Sharing our gifts, words, and actions helps people see God more clearly.

  • Who can you thank or encourage this week for the way they serve or help bring peace and order to others?

  • What is one simple way you can build someone up this week with encouragement, truth, or prayer?

  • Where do you sense God giving you an opportunity to speak a clear word of truth or hope to someone?

NEXT STEP

Choose one action for this week in one of the Be The Church rhythms:

Grow: What scripture will you study?
Pray: Who will you intentionally pray for?
Connect: Who will you encourage or check on?
Share: Where will you serve or bless someone?

PRAYER

Close by thanking God for bringing order out of chaos, for speaking clearly through His Word, and for strengthening His people through the Spirit. Ask Him to help your group build others up, speak truth with clarity, and walk in peace.
