Key Passage: Psalm 1
OPENING QUESTION
When you hear the word “blessed,” what comes to mind? How would you define a truly blessed life?
GROW
Psalm 1 paints a clear contrast between two paths. One leads to life, stability, and fruitfulness. The other leads to emptiness and destruction. The blessed person is not simply someone who avoids trouble. The blessed person delights in the law of the Lord and meditates on it day and night.
A wise person knows what to pursue and what to reject. It is not enough to know what to do. We must also recognize what not to do. Psalm 1 reminds us that blessing is rooted in obedience and delight. Discipline leads to desire. Desire leads to devotion.
The picture of a tree planted by streams of water would have been powerful in a dry climate. A tree planted by water does not depend on circumstances. Its roots run deep. It bears fruit in season. Its leaf does not wither.
If we want to walk this path, we must model our lives after Jesus. He delighted in the Father’s will. He rejected what displeased God. He obeyed fully. That is the L3 life, learning from Christ, living in Christ, and leading others to Christ.
- What stands out to you most about the contrast between the blessed and the wicked person?
- Where do you see the tension in your own life between knowing what to do and avoiding what not to do?
- What does it look like for you to delight in God’s Word instead of just reading it?
- How can discipline in Scripture lead to deeper desire for God?
PRAY
The blessed life begins in the heart. It grows through consistent connection with God. Prayer aligns our desires with His and strengthens us to reject what pulls us away from Him.
- Where do you need God to strengthen your roots right now?
- Is there something in your life that you need to reject because it displeases God?
- How can we pray for one another to grow in delight and obedience this week?
CONNECT
Psalm 1 reminds us that who we walk with shapes who we become. The blessed person avoids certain influences and chooses to be rooted in truth. Community plays a major role in which path we take.
- Who in your life helps you pursue what pleases God?
- Are there influences in your life that are shaping you in the wrong direction?
- How can this group help you stay planted by the right stream?
SHARE
A tree planted by streams of water bears fruit. The blessed life is visible. Others can see stability, peace, and growth. When you model your life after Jesus, your life becomes an invitation for others to follow Him too.
- What kind of fruit is God producing in your life right now?
- Who needs to see a steady, rooted example of faith in their life?
- How can you intentionally model a life that delights in the Lord?
