God’s Power In Your Life – Chip Henderson

Sermon Highlights

Key Passage: Psalm 139:13-16

The omnipotence of God means He is all-powerful. There is nothing He cannot do. From the vastness of creation to the smallest detail of life, His power knows no limits. In Psalm 139:13-16, David turns this truth inward, marveling that the same God who hung the stars and commands the seas also formed him personally. God’s omnipotence is not just cosmic; it is intimate, displayed in His workmanship as He knit each of us together with care and purpose.

  • God’s power shaped your life; therefore, you have value. You are fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God. He knit you together uniquely, like a master artist creating one-of-a-kind work. Your worth comes from being His workmanship, not from comparison or performance.
  • God’s power includes a purpose for your life. You were not created to make much of yourself but to live out God’s plan. He has prepared good works in advance for you to walk in. Serving others is one way you step into His purpose and reflect His glory.
  • God’s power sets limits for your life. Your days are numbered by Him, and your life has boundaries you cannot move beyond. The most important part of your life is not how long you live but what you do with the “dash” between the dates.

God’s omnipotence means His power reaches every part of your life. The same God who created the universe formed you with value, gave you purpose, and set the number of your days. Nothing is outside His ability. You can live with confidence, knowing His all-powerful hand is guiding, sustaining, and fulfilling His good plan for you.

INTRO

Icebreaker

What’s something unique about you that most people don’t know?

Transition to Discussion

It’s fascinating to discover the unique qualities that make each of us who we are. Psalm 139 reminds us that these qualities aren’t random. God created us intentionally and with care. Let’s explore what this passage reveals about His power in creating us and what it means for our lives today.

GROUP DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Read Psalm 139:13-16 together as a group. Consider reading it in a couple of different translations, like the ESV and NLT, to hear it in a fresh way.

  • Which word or image in Psalm 139:13-16 stands out to you most today, and why?
  • Is there something about how God made you that you’ve struggled to appreciate? What helps you see it as part of His good design?
  • What voices or pressures from the world make it hard to believe you are “fearfully and wonderfully made”? How do you stay grounded in God’s truth when that happens?
  • When you think about the complexity of the human body, what stirs awe in you about God’s creativity and power?
  • When have you experienced God doing something you thought was impossible? How did that shape your trust in Him afterward?
  • God created each of us with a unique design. How do your gifts, personality, or life experiences give clues to His purpose for you?
  • Verse 16 says God set the number of our days. How does embracing that truth affect the way you think about time, priorities, or pace of life?
  • Read Ephesians 2:10. What does it mean to you personally that you are God’s workmanship, created for good works? How does that deepen your understanding of your value and purpose?

NEXT STEP

Psalm 139 shows us that God’s power is at work in your life. One way you live that out is by serving in the church. If you’re already serving, consider how God might grow you through it. If you’re not serving yet, think about where He may be calling you to get involved. What step could you take this week?

PRAYER

Let’s break into groups of two or three and spend some time praying for each other. If you’re already serving, share what you do and where you’d like to see God work through you. If you’re not serving yet, share where you sense He may be leading you. And if you aren’t sure what your next step is, share that and let’s pray for God to make it clear.

Keep it simple. Share briefly so there’s time for everyone. You don’t have to explain everything in detail, just enough for us to pray. If you’re not comfortable sharing yet, it’s okay to listen. As you pray, remember that short and simple prayers are powerful. After a few minutes, I will close us in prayer.
