Gratitude as Part of Powerful Prayer – Chip Henderson

Key Passage: 2 Chronicles 30:21–27

OPENING QUESTION

When has someone’s gratitude or generosity inspired your faith or changed your perspective?

GROW

In a season of revival, Hezekiah led God’s people to worship, celebrate, give thanks, and offer generously. Their hearts were full of gratitude and their hands were open in worship. This atmosphere created space for God’s power and presence to move.

The people worshiped day by day, lifting loud praise to God. They offered peace offerings, a voluntary act of gratitude. And they gave freely, bringing their tithes and contributing beyond what was expected. Their collective attitude shifted, and the result was that their voice was heard in heaven.

Gratitude is not just a feeling. It is an act of worship that invites God close and builds our faith.

  • What do you notice about the way the people responded after celebrating Passover?

  • Why do you think worship, gratitude, and generosity are so closely tied to prayer?

  • What does it look like to build a daily rhythm of worship into your life?

  • What have you seen happen when people give thanks or give generously?

PRAY

When we praise, God’s presence fills the space. When we give thanks, our perspective changes. When we bring our hearts to Him in worship and surrender, we prepare ourselves to hear and be heard. Gratitude is not a prerequisite for prayer, but it often becomes the pathway to it.

  • What do you need to thank God for today?

  • Where do you need to shift your focus off your problems and back onto God?

  • How can our group pray with you to grow in gratitude or generosity this week?

CONNECT

Worship and gratitude are contagious. When we lift our voices and raise our hands in surrender, it encourages others to do the same. As the people of God responded together, their unity and celebration created an atmosphere for God to work.

  • How does being around thankful, generous people affect your own faith?

  • What helps you stay aware of God’s goodness in everyday life?

  • How can our group intentionally encourage worship and generosity during P28?

SHARE

Your praise and your offering are noticed by God. Just like Cornelius in Acts 10, your prayers and your generosity rise before God. Gratitude is not only for you, it shows others what God is like. When we respond with open hands and hearts, others are drawn to His presence too.

  • Who needs to see or hear your gratitude this week?

  • Is there someone you can bless through an act of generosity?

  • What is one way you can lead others toward God through praise, thanks, or giving?

NEXT STEP

Choose one action for this week in one of the Be The Church rhythms:

Grow: What verse will you memorize to anchor your gratitude?
Pray: What will you thank God for each day at 1:00 during P28?
Connect: Who will you encourage to worship or give thanks this week?
Share: How will you express generosity to someone as a reflection of God’s heart?

Write it down. Tell someone. Follow through.

PRAYER

Close by thanking God for His goodness and presence. Praise Him for who He is and what He has done. Ask Him to deepen your gratitude, build your faith, and multiply your generosity so others can see His heart through your life.
